Why Starch Is Not Considered an Agricultural Product?
Starch is a type of polysaccharide carbohydrate, a high-molecular-weight compound consisting of multiple glucose molecules linked together by glycosidic bonds. Although starch is widely found in many plants, it itself does not belong to agricultural products.
Agricultural products typically refer to unprocessed raw ingredients harvested directly from production areas such as farmland, orchards, and pastures, such as grains, vegetables, fruits, and meats. In contrast, starch is a product resulting from the processing of these agricultural products. While plants like grains and root vegetables contain starch, these plants themselves are not starch but are rather the source of starch.
Starch has a wide range of applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. It can be obtained by processing agricultural products, such as grinding grains or root vegetables and then extracting the starch through processes like soaking in water, sedimentation, and drying. Therefore, while starch has a close relationship with agricultural products, it does not belong to agricultural products itself but is instead a processed product derived from them.
