The main religion practiced in North Korea is the indigenous religious belief of the Korean people known as Tonghap (Heaven and Earth Way). Tonghap is a traditional religious belief formed during the long historical development of the Korean nation, deeply influenced by Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
In Tonghap, the objects of worship are primarily Heaven, Earth, the Monarch, Parents, and Teachers, representing respect for the natural world, authority of the monarch, family ties, and the guidance of mentors. Tonghap followers believe that humans should follow the will of Heaven, adhere to moral norms, and pursue harmony and peace.
Apart from Tonghap, other religions such as Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam also exist in North Korea. However, due to historical and political reasons, the development of these religions in North Korea is subject to certain restrictions.
The North Korean government adopts a policy of protecting religious beliefs and respects the freedom of religious belief of its citizens. Religious activities in North Korea are subject to legal regulation and management to ensure their normal conduct and social stability.
