Since May 1, 2011, when Usama bin Laden was killed by American special forces, the global counter-terrorism situation has not been effectively eased, but has instead seen more retaliatory attacks. The most notable of these was the terrorist attack in Paris, France on November 13, 2015.
That evening, gunmen opened fire at multiple locations in Paris, killing at least 132 people and injuring more than 300. This was the deadliest terrorist attack since the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in the United States. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
In addition to this, there have been several other violent incidents targeting innocent civilians. These incidents have made the global counter-terrorism situation increasingly严峻. Government agencies are strengthening counter-terrorism efforts in order to reduce the number of terrorist attacks.
The death of Usama bin Laden did not make the world safer, but instead made the terrorist threat even more serious. This reminds us that counter-terrorism work is not a one-time effort, but requires the joint efforts of governments and people around the world. Only through strengthening international cooperation can we effectively respond to the terrorist threat.
