A-shares and B-shares refer to two different types of stocks in the Chinese stock market. A-shares are the main trading品种on the Chinese mainland market, priced and traded in人民币, with investors mainly consisting of Chinese citizens and institutional investors. On the other hand, B-shares are foreign capital stocks priced in人民币but listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange or Shenzhen Stock Exchange. They can only be traded by foreign investors or Chinese Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan-based investors.
The A-share market is the main board market of the Chinese mainland stock market, mainly targeting domestic investors and domestic listed companies. The A-share market is highly volatile and active in trading, making it the preferred trading venue for many investors. The B-share market, on the other hand, is the second board market of the Chinese mainland stock market, mainly targeting foreign investors and foreign listed companies.
