Why There Is No Three-Yuan Renminbi?
In the monetary system of the Renminbi, we have never seen a three-yuan note. There are several reasons behind this.
Firstly, from a historical perspective, the three-yuan denomination has never existed in the Renminbi's monetary system. The original intention of designing the Renminbi was to facilitate transactions and circulation, and the selection of its denominations was based on market demand and economic conditions. In the past, the three-yuan denomination was not considered a commonly used trading unit, hence its absence in the Renminbi.
Secondly, from the design principles of the monetary system, the denominations of currency should be reasonable and scientific. The denominations should take into account factors such as facilitating transactions, reducing transaction costs, and preventing inflation. A three-yuan Renminbi note may cause inconvenience in transactions as it is neither a multiple of 10 nor a multiple of 5, which may lead to complexities in calculating transaction amounts.
Lastly, from a cultural perspective, the Chinese have a special affinity for the number "three." In some traditional cultures, "three" is considered an inauspicious number, and therefore, using a three-yuan denomination in the monetary system may cause psychological discomfort to some people.
