What Are XD Stocks?
In the stock market, XD stocks are a relatively specific concept. So, what exactly are XD stocks?
1. Definition of XD Stocks
XD stocks, fully known as "ex-dividend stocks," refer to stocks where investors who purchased the stock before a specific date (the ex-dividend date) and held it until that date do not receive the company's dividend payout. In simple terms, XD stocks are stocks that have already paid out dividends, and that dividend amount has been deducted from the stock's price.
2. Characteristics of XD Stocks
- Price Adjustment: After the ex-dividend date, the price of XD stocks typically adjusts downward to reflect the dividend that has been paid out. This means that investors purchasing the stock after the ex-dividend date do not have to pay the dividend amount.
Loss of Dividend Rights: Investors who held the stock before the ex-dividend date do not receive the dividend payout but retain other rights associated with the stock, such as voting rights.
The existence of XD stocks has a dual impact on investors. On one hand, for investors seeking dividend income, purchasing XD stocks means they will miss out on that particular dividend payment. On the other hand, since the price of XD stocks already reflects the dividend payment, they are usually more stable and suitable for long-term investors.
